Timothy Thrane of the Suffolk County PD was directing traffic at the intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Yaphank Woods Blvd., on Wednesday, Nov. 3 when a drunk driver struck the rear of a parked GMC Yukon causing that vehicle to strike Thrane.
Thrane, age 35, suffered life-threatening brain injuries and was on life support and a ventilator, said the Suffolk County Police.
Following multiple surgeries and round-the-clock care, the three-year veteran of the department will be discharged on Friday, Dec. 3, from Stony Brook University Hospital to begin his rehabilitation at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson.
Police Officers Mark Collins, Christian Vidal, and Detectives Christopher Racioppo and Nicholas Guerrero, who were all critically injured on-duty and returned to work, will be in attendance to lend support to Thrane.
Thrane will be accompanied by his wife and three children.
The driver of the truck, William Petersohn, age 38, of Mastic, has pleaded not guilty to the crime.
